Abstract

The grape is the fruit of the grapevine (Vitis species). This is the second most widely grown fruit in the world. Indeed, according to a report by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) about the world market for fruit, grapes represents 14.6% of the global production of fruit just after oranges; equivalent to nearly 68 million tons of grapes. Grapes are a valuable source of numerous phytonutrients and many studies have suggested cardiovascular benefits, and some work has indicated cancer chemopreventive activity. This article lists most of the grape compounds that have health benefits, and their positive impact on some human pathologies.
