Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present a damage model for optimization of impacted tubes subjected to a compressive load. An experimental study was made on tubes and plates to understand the damage mechanisms involved both in impact and compression after impact that led to a comparison between their behaviors with the intention of replacing the tests done on tubes by others done on plates. Since the response of plate and tube to impact presents some differences, a finite element model representing the impact on tubes is proposed. The geometric parameters of this model can be changed in order to run an optimization process presented at the end of the paper.
