The hydrochemical characterization of the Corumbatai river is used to evaluate the chemical erosion processes and the balance of silicate and carbonate rocks weathering in the drainage basin. The geochemical model used in this paper was based on the dissolution stoichiometry and hydrolysis of different minerals. The contribution of the CO2 atmospheric/soil consumed by the rock weathering in the basin was 89%, which represents a specific flux of about 235 x 10 3 moles/km2.a. For the silicate weathering, the value observed was 208 x 10 3 moles/km2.a. whereas, for the carbonate, the result was around 27 x 10 3 moles/km2.a. The specific chemical erosion, in global terms, estimated as TDS for the Corumbatai River basin, was aproximately 22 t/km2.a. after being corrected for atmospheric inputs (ions and CO2) ; this value represents about 60% of the total dissolved load transported in the river. The weathering rate of silicates, estimates for the total silicated area (96% of the basin), was 7.4 m/Myr, while, for carbonates, it was 16.3 m/Myr in only 4% of the basin.
