Abstract
Traditional minerai oil based lubricants have significant drawbacks with respect to the environment and health hazards for professional users and consumers. Obviously biolubricants are not entirely harmless either. However there is a clear difference in the magnitude of the health and specifically the environmental hazards connected to minerai oil based products versus biolubricants. In this chapter the environmental issues will be dealt with first followed by a short description of the health hazards.
