Abstract

Since its creation in 2006, Twitter became an essential support for researchers in computer science and computational social science, especially for those working on political issues. This talk will present a panorama of its uses on this domain. Using works on political polarization, stance detection, election prediction, and political engagement, we will look at the technical choices made to take advantage of Twitter data and at the insights they gave on various political landscapes and political actors, from strategies to avoid confrontations in debates on gun control in the US to relations between factions in an Italian political party.
