Abstract

A new thermodynamic model is proposed to describe the phase equilibria of the ternary system (H2O-HI-I2), known as the HIx system and which represents the latent source of hydrogen for the Iodine – Sulfur thermochemical cycle. An homogeneous approach is adopted, for the first time, where the Peng-Robinson equation of state is combined, by means of MHV2 mixing rule, to UNIQUAC activity coefficient model supplemented with the solvation of hydrogen iodide by water, as proposed by Engels.
